Residential complex in Southern Tushino, Moscow.
Southern Tushino – A District with Deep Historical Roots
First mentioned in the 16th century as a village, Southern Tushino has gradually evolved into a vibrant urban environment. Once home to watermills, factories, and industrial plants, it is now a district where architecture serves as a bridge between past and present.
An Inspiring Landscape
The natural setting of Southern Tushino — the river, green spaces, and open areas — forms the foundation of the residential complex’s architectural concept, developed by MAD Architects. Pedestrian paths, embankments, recreational zones, and bike lanes create a comfortable environment for living and leisure, highlighting a strong connection with nature.
A Link to History
The architectural design of the complex draws inspiration from the silhouette of watermills — symbols of resilience, engineering prowess, and harmony with nature. This motif is reflected in the form of freestanding towers connected by a shared podium, creating both visual and functional unity.
Industrial Heritage
The materials used in the complex’s finishes reference the district’s industrial past. Brick, once widely used in the construction of local factories, plays a key role in the façade concept — adding warmth and a historical resonance.
Façade Concept
A play of rhythms, a blend of calm and dynamic elements, contrasting window groupings, and a variety of textures — all these features allow the façades to “breathe,” combining the energy of modernity with a sense of comfort.
Every detail of the project is the result of a careful dialogue with its context. Our goal was to create architecture that not only “stands” in its environment, but truly “lives” within it — respecting its past and shaping its future.
