Skala Business Center
Year: 2018
Location: Moscow
The architectural concept of the complex was developed with a focus on ensuring adequate sunlight exposure (insolation) for the surrounding residential buildings. The building’s form is strategically deformed to allow sunlight to reach nearby homes unobstructed between 1:00 PM and 3:30 PM. The geometry of the lower tier is cut away to improve natural lighting in the double-height recreational and office areas within the business center.
This resulting “insolation fault” gives the building a distinctive appearance reminiscent of a rock formation—hence the name Skala (meaning “rock” in Russian).
The façade features a minimal material palette: concrete, glass, and perforated light-permeable metal panels. The design includes an additional pedestrian connection running through the internal courtyard of the complex, where a landscaped public space has been created—not only for business center users but also to welcome city residents.
